As another eventful year at Fraser Valley Regional Library comes to a close, we’re excited to share the titles our community checked out again and again. From gripping novels to family favourites and music picks, here are 2025’s most popular books, movies and music at FVRL. 

Our “most popular” lists were compiled based on library circulation and checkouts of materials released in the last 12 months.

Our adult readers couldn’t get enough of The Let Them Theory, Mel Robbins’s empowering guide to focusing on what truly matters and letting go of what’s beyond your control. This thoughtful and accessible self-help book sparked conversations and inspired many of us to take a fresh look at decision-making, resilience and inner calm — making it a standout favourite on our shelves all year long.

Popular adult books also included: Great Big Beautiful Life by Emily Henry, Crash by Freid McFadden and Onyx Storm by Rebecca Yarros.

Sunrise of the Reaping by Suzanne Collins

Young adult fans flocked to Suzanne Collins’s latest entry in The Hunger Games universe. Sunrise of the Reaping takes readers back to Panem for a powerful and immersive adventure centred on the 50th Hunger Games. With rich world-building and complex themes of control, courage and hope, this prequel captivated teens and adults.

Popular young adult books also included: Fearless by Lauren Roberts, Rebel Witch by Kristen Ciccarelli and Glorious Rivals by Jennifer Lynn Barnes.

Most Popular Book for Children: 
Dog Man: Big Jim Begins by Dav Pilkey

Our youngest readers cheered for everyone’s favourite heroic canine in Dog Man: Big Jim Begins. Dav Pilkey’s humour, heart and bold cartoon style once again delivered a fun and energetic reading experience that kept kids coming back for more. 

Popular books for children also included: Wings of Fire: Winter Turning by Tui Sutherland, I Survived the Great Molasses Flood, 1919 by Georgia Ball and Baby-Sitters Little Sister: Karen’s Prize by Shauna J. Grant.

 

A Minecraft Movie
Most Popular Video: 
A Minecraft Movie

Family audiences and movie lovers turned out in force for A Minecraft Movie, making it FVRL’s most-checked-out film in 2025. Based on the beloved video game, this motion picture adventure brought the pixelated world to life with humour, creativity and blockbuster energy — and captured the imaginations of all ages. 

Popular movies also included: Thunderbolts: The New Avengers, Jurassic World: Rebirth and Sinners.

 

 

Blue Rodeo Greatest Hits Volume 2
Most Popular Music Album: 
Greatest Hits, Volume 2 by Blue Rodeo

Our music fans turned up the volume on Greatest Hits, Volume 2 by Canadian icons Blue Rodeo. Released in March 2025 as a celebration of the band’s 40-year career, this compilation brought together beloved tracks spanning decades, making it a top choice for FVRL’s music listeners.

Popular music albums also included: Mayhem by Lady Gaga, A Complete Unknown: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack and I’ve Tried Everything but Therapy by Teddy Swims.

I love reading books by authors from diverse backgrounds and perspectives. I try to keep an open mind and seek out stories that reflect a wide range of life experiences. For me, this means being intentional about not limiting my reading to authors of a single ethnicity or worldview.

Free Comic Book Day!
On Saturday, May 3, we will celebrate Free Comic Book Day, an annual outreach initiative of the North American comic book industry. Thanks to the support of Heroes for Sale, one of the Fraser Valley’s amazing comic book shops, we are happy to share a limited selection and quantity of free comic books with our communities.

Audiobooks Count as Reading!

I absolutely love listening to audiobooks. I listen while I'm driving, making dinner, doing housework, and even when I go for a hike. Audiobooks have brought me hours of entertainment and allowed my busy mind to take a break with something enjoyable.
