At FVRL, we want you to enjoy your library items without worry. Most members may borrow up to 60 items at a time. Here's how long you can keep them:
How Long Can I Borrow Items?
- Most Items: three weeks
- High-Demand Items: two weeks
- Bestseller Express Items: one week
Check your borrowing slip or account for due dates.
Can I Renew Items?
Yes! Most items can be renewed up to three times unless:
- The item is in high demand
- Someone else has requested the item
- The item is borrowed from outside the FVRL system
How to Renew:
- Online: Log in to your FVRL account
- By Phone: Call or visit your local FVRL location
- In Person: Speak to staff at any FVRL service desk
Stay in the Know with Email Reminders
We’ll send you friendly reminders to help you keep track:
- Before Items Are Due: A reminder email 3 days before your due date
- Overdue Items: An email if items are overdue by 7 days
Sign up for email notifications by providing your email address at your local FVRL location or when registering your library card.
You can also manage your FVRL account with Library Elf. Get consolidated lists of your family's library loans and holds. Visit libraryelf.com and use your FVRL card to set up an account.

Where Can I Return Items?
Return most materials to any:
- FVRL location, including after-hours book drops where available
- The Playground™ items, to FVRL staff at the service desk
- BC library (allow up to 8 weeks for your account to update)
