June is Pride Month, a time to honour the history, achievements and resilience of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. At FVRL, Pride is more than just a month-long celebration; it’s part of our ongoing commitment to inclusion, representation and creating a welcoming space for everyone.
This month, we’re highlighting diverse voices through curated booklists, vibrant displays and community events that uplift queer stories and experiences. Join us as we celebrate love, identity and the power of sharing stories that reflect the beautiful diversity of our community.
Events Throughout the Summer
While June is widely recognized as Pride Month to honour New York’s Stonewall Uprising in June of 1969, Fraser Valley communities celebrate Pride at various times throughout the summer. Though these celebrations are more modest than the big city Pride festivals, our local events provide fun and entertainment for the whole family, along with a chance to connect with community partners. You might even run into FVRL staff offering prizes and reading suggestions!
Check out these upcoming Pride events in our FVRL communities:
- Maple Ridge Pride in the Park – June 14
- Pitt Meadows Pride Concert in the Park – June 19
- Chilliwack Pride Festival – July 13
- Fraser Valley Pride Festival (Mission) – July 19
- White Rock Pride Week – July 28–25
- Langley Pride Day – August 9

FVRL staff attend Pride festivals in many Fraser Valley communities throughout the summer. Check out our booth for prizes and reading suggestions!

Read With Pride
Celebrate Pride with a great read. Your library has a great selection to choose from! Interest in gay- and queer-themed books has surged in recent years, with publishers, booksellers and libraries responding to the demand for greater 2SLGBTQIA+ representation and visibility in literature. Queer-themed romance and young adult fiction are especially popular right now, but you can find growing numbers of 2SLGBTQIA+ stories across all genres and age groups.
Count on library staff to steer you towards books that match your tastes and interests. Visit us at the library or try My Reading Adviser to receive a specially curated reading list just for you! An FVRL Reading Adviser can suggest a popular new title or a new-to-you classic of queer literature.

Colourful book displays provide reading suggestions for all ages during Pride Month.
