Board Policy – Library Closures

Policy Statement

Fraser Valley Regional Library recognizes, on occasion, inclement weather and other unusual conditions may prevent the library from opening, postpone opening, or require early closing. However, maximum effort will be made to maintain regular library operating hours.

Purpose

In the event that conditions arise requiring a premature closing of the library, the Chief Executive Officer or designate Director, through the appropriate manager, will authorize the library closure. Situations which may result in closing the library may include, but are not limited to:

  • inclement weather;
  • a power outage;
  • a failure of the building heating system;
  • flooding; or
  • unsafe or unhealthy conditions.

Once a decision has been made to close, the closure information will be distributed to staff and the general public.

If the closure results in a temporary suspension of work, employees will be paid according to the provisions of the Collective Agreement, or, if not specified in the Collective Agreement, according to the Employment Standards Act.

Scope

All staff and FVRL locations.
