Board Policy – Donations
Policy Statement
Fraser Valley Regional Library accepts monetary, gifts in kind and material donations. They are accepted on the understanding that FVRL has complete jurisdiction over the disposal of such gifts. All donations will be acknowledged in a manner appropriate to the size and type of donation.
FVRL reserves the right to decline any gift that is deemed not to be in the best interest of the library, or that does not support the library’s strategic plan.
The library does not appraise donated materials. The cost of an appraisal is the responsibility of the donor.
Purpose
To clarify the conditions and terms by which FVRL will accept donations.
Scope
All staff, customers and Board.
Official Receipts
Receipts will be issued for donations of $20.00 and above. For in-kind and material donations, official receipts will be issued provided that the value of the donation exceeds $20.00 and a verifiable third party has provided written appraisal of the donation’s worth.
Conditions of Accepting Donations
In accepting donations, FVRL will:
- Ensure that the donation supports the mission, vision, values, and strategic plan
- Ensure the receipt of funds prior to any purchase
- Make the final decision on the use of the donation
