LIBRARY LIVE AND ON TOUR
Library Live and On Tour™ is an innovative, stereotype-shattering literacy initiative developed by Fraser Valley Regional Library. It “delivers the library” to people who do not know about libraries or have some obstacle to visiting them. The centrepiece is LiLi, a remarkable little vehicle with some very un-library-like enhancements. LiLi takes to the street to promote the library and literacy, and to connect with marginalized and socially excluded people. With Community Development Specialist Janeen Parent, LiLi works closely and builds relationships with community-based organizations throughout FVRL’s 15 municipalities. LiLi welcomes everyone as valued members of our library community.
What Does LiLi Do?
The Library Live service allows anyone to access the library by creating a new account or replacing a lost library card. Customers can experience FVRL Playground items like telescopes, ukuleles and programmable robots. They can also view digital content like ebooks and audiobooks on LiLi’s tablets. The Community Development Specialist can answer questions about the library, share program information and also place requests on library materials.
About the LiLi Vehicle
LiLi is a 2012 Nissan Cube that was outfitted by 360 Fabrications. There is a 37-inch television and custom-made made mount for a PlayStation 4 and virtual reality set. The vehicle’s audio system includes marine speakers accompanied by built-in amps and sub box, which makes it perfect for outdoor events like community fairs and parades. A 3,000-watt inverter and 45-amp power supply support the technology and power the vehicle through an electric plug-in. Additional specialized features include the embroidered seats, “AOOGA” horn and microphone system.
