Join us for a writing workshop for developing character backstory!

A character’s backstory is what makes them real to the reader—they had thoughts, feelings, and experiences long before the story started that made them who they are. But, how does a writer include that without info-dumping in big blocks of text that slow—or outright stall—the story?

The afternoon features writing exercises that will help you shape full characters and then practicing integrating those past experiences and beliefs into a ‘present’ scene for that character.

Suitable for ages 15 and up. Please bring something to write with – a notebook and pen, tablet, or laptop. Please arrive on time to minimize interruptions once writing exercises have begun.
