Energy Meters at FVRL

FVRL offers easy-to-use, portable Energy Meters for loan.

The library is committed to the vibrant health of our communities as well as the planet we share. Test a variety of devices in your home with this kit. The information gained from Energy Meters can empower you to begin to explore actions, one step at a time in reducing energy consumption and household carbon emissions.

Borrowing an Energy Meter With Your FVRL Card

Energy Meters circulate through the FVRL system as part of the floating collection. If we don’t have one available at your local library, we can put a hold on the next available one. Check availability at your library or search online in the FVRL catalogue.

You may check out your Energy Meters for a three-week loan period. If there are holds on the kit, you may only keep it for two weeks. Please return your Energy Meters on time to any FVRL location. The Playground collection is available to FVRL full access cardholders only. See Getting a Library Card for more details.

FAQs

Where is the on/off switch on the Energy Meters?

The Energy Meters does not have one. When plugged in it will automatically turn on.

Where do I go to find electricity rates?

Go to BCHydro.com and search for "Residential Rates".

Can I plug something in that is too powerful for the Wall Outlet Energy Meter?

Do not test devices that use more than 14A or 1800W. Check your device before plugging it in to make sure it won’t draw too much power through the Wall Outlet Energy Meter.
