Birdwatching Backpacks at FVRL

Birdwatching has come to the library! Outdoor enthusiasts have studied birds for generations. More recently, birdwatching (or “birding”) has become a growing trend among young people who wish to reconnect with nature. It’s now one of the fastest growing pastimes in North America! No matter your age or background, birdwatching is a relaxing and educational activity the whole family can enjoy.

Birdwatching supports STEAM learning (science, technology, engineering, arts and math) through observation of the natural world. The study of birds and their habitat can provide a deeper understanding of ecology, biodiversity and the environment.

Borrowing a Birdwatching Backpack With Your FVRL Card

Want to borrow a Birdwatching Backpack? It’s easy! All you need is an FVRL card. Birdwatching Backpacks circulate through the FVRL system as part of the floating collection. If we don’t have one available at your local library, we can put a hold on the next available backpack and it will be delivered to your nearest FVRL location. You can check availability at your library or search online in the FVRL catalogue.

You may check out your Birdwatching Backpack for a one-week loan period when others are waiting. (If there are no holds on the item, you may keep it for three weeks.) Please return your Birdwatching Backpack on time to any FVRL location. (Please return to a service desk. Do not place it in a book drop!) The Birdwatching Backpack collection is available to FVRL full access cardholders only. See Getting a Library Card for more details.
