Audiobook Service provides a variety of audio formats to customers who are print impaired, enabling them to read their favourite authors and the latest titles in an audio format.

What are Audiobooks?

Audiobooks are complete books recorded by professional actors. Typically, the average book provides 10-12 hours of listening content. Audiobooks are available in MP3 and Daisy discs.

Am I eligible for Audiobook Service?

Audiobooks are available to anyone unable to read print books because of a visual, physical or perceptual disability.

FVRL customers who are eligible for this service have access to a large variety of titles in many popular genres, such as:

  • Best Sellers
  • Mysteries
  • Romances
  • Westerns
  • Science Fiction
  • Thrillers
  • Biographies
  • Travel
  • History
  • Young Adult and Children's Books

How do I apply for Audiobook Service?

You can apply for Audiobook Service in the following ways:

You may choose to mail, fax or drop-off your completed application to your closest FVRL location.

How much does Audiobook Service cost?

There is no charge for Audiobook Service, however you must reside in a community that FVRL serves.

How do I choose the titles I want?

Most customers prefer Outreach Services staff to choose books based on their personalized reading profile. If you would rather choose your own titles, browse the following and send your requests for specific titles to Outreach Services:

  • Browse the FVRL online catalogue and use the Advanced Search function. Limit the location to items available to the Outreach Department. Use your library card and PIN number to place requests.
  • Browse the Interlink catalogue (libraries outside of FVRL) online at http://www.interlinklibraries.ca or ask for an Interlink form in paper from Outreach Services. Send these requests to Outreach Services.

How do I receive my audiobooks?

Once you are registered with Outreach Services, you may receive your books through:

  • Pick-up at your local library
  • Canada Post (postage is free)
  • Home delivery - if you qualify for Home Library Service

How long may I keep my audiobooks?

Audiobooks will be checked out to you for four weeks.

How do I return my audiobooks?

  • Return audiobooks to any FVRL location
  • Mail back to FVRL by turning over the address card on the audiobook case and dropping the audiobook in any Canada Post mailbox
  • If you receive Home Library Service, your audiobooks will be picked up at your home

Outreach Services has DAISY Players to lend for up to three months. Ask Outreach Services for more information on borrowing or demonstration.
