FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY POLICY

The Fraser Valley Regional Library Board supports the Friends of the Library - an organization of volunteers whose objectives are:

  • to form an association of persons interested in libraries;
  • to focus public attention on the library;
  • to stimulate the use of the library's resources and services;
  • to initiate fund-raising activities;
  • to receive and encourage gifts, endowments, and bequests to the library;
  • to lend political support where needed; and
  • to support the freedom to read, as expressed by the Canadian Library Association and supported by Fraser Valley Regional Library policy.

Friends of the Library have an entirely different role within the library than do members of the Library Board. While the Board makes policy and decides on budget, Friends support the library and its functions. Friends of the Library also have a very different role than do paid staff. Staff perform all routines related to providing library services; as volunteers, Friends are not involved in the daily operation of the library.
